1992 Cadillac Brougham Limousine: Adventures In Paradise
The 1990-1992 Cadillac Brougham is appreciating quite favorably. The sudden renewal of interest isn’t surprising seeing as they are among the last of Cadillac’s full-size auto art representing uncompromised 6-passenger luxury and elegance that endured. When equipped with the 5.7L 350-CID V8 engine; Brougham’s standard throttle body fuel injection, anti-lock braking, Electronic Variable Assist steering, and Electronic Level Control made it the primary choice among coachbuilders.
They were transformed into some of the finest bespoke stretch limousines of distinction the world has to offer. The 1990-1992 Cadilac Brougham was a blank canvas and a springboard for the designer’s expertise. Limousine Werks aka LW took full advantage of this when they crafted their 34” stretch Corporate Limousine. Moloney and LW created the 34” ‘single-cut’ extension.
This discreetly changed the formidable Cadillac Brougham into a formal limousine complete with chauffeur compartment equipped with an electric vertical drop privacy window separating it from the spacious rear passenger compartment. MY 1992 Cadillac Brougham coachbuilt limousine by Limousine Werks makes a cameo appearance in the continuing saga of…”As the Standard of the World Turns – “
“Eppie” is a 1992 Cadillac Brougham single-cut limousine s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d 34”. This magnificent sedan is impressive in both stature and luxury making it one of the most respected of all Cadillac creations. The rear passenger compartment has been designed as an intimate conversation pit. This ‘petite’ stretch of a mere 34” adds a living room atmosphere to the elegant Brougham sedan’s rear cabin. The added inches creates a spacious rear compartment with ample legroom and seating creating a comfortable environment; not as long a formal stretch or double-cut’ but equally as luxurious.
The 34” stretch is the type of Cadillac limousine for the private owner desiring a more intimate theme. A partition with an electric sliding partition affords added discretion and privacy. Two folding forward-facing jump-seats accommodate 3 additional passengers comfortably making the rear compartment alone carry 6 passengers Cadillac-Style. This highly bespoke luxury conversion catapults Cadillac Brougham luxury to new heights in exclusivity. “Eppie” is notoriously luxurious focusing upon passenger creature comforts all wrapped up in a stately presence that’s unmistakably Cadillac.
Limousine Werks (1984-1994) redesigned America’s longest regular production automobile yielding uncompromised luxury, distinction, and sophistication…Cadillac-Style. They capture the essence of timeless elegance in a true American classic. LW escalates passenger comfort in these wide-body limousines conductive to entertaining or even business meetings.
Limousine Werks or LW, began their mission in 1984 becoming the largest coachbuilder of Cadillac limousines by the late 1980s and into the early 1990s. This was a highly successful “Earl Moloney” spinoff founded by Matt Baines. He joined Moloney Coachbuilders in the 1970s as a salesman excelling his tenure to VP of sales. Baines pioneered the company’s cultivation into the growing ‘Livery” segment among the first operations bringing stretch limousines to New York City.
Matt Baines filled a niche that had become more sophisticated demanding a more intimately-personal environment. He fulfilled this niche with a new generation of luxury motoring. He specialized in custom-bodied automobiles with even more personalized client commissioning and the ultimate in customer service. Each and every design catered to the bespoke requisites of each client making the vehicle as uniquely personal as its owner’s fingerprints. In 1994 Matt Baines sold LW to his previous employer, Earl Moloney. Moloney was once ‘THE’ purveyor in bespoke custom-crafted limousines.
“Eppie” began her life as a 1992 Cadillac Brougham with basic dimensions consisting of 221” in length, 76.5” of luxurious width, and a commanding wheelbase of 121.5” built as body-on-frame construction with rear wheel drive. They are ideal to convert. “Eppie” has the luxury length of 255” and rides upon a long 155.5” wheelbase. It worked well as a ‘single-cut’ stretch limousine where the car’s body is sliced usually behind the front seats.
The length is generally shorter than a ‘double-cut’ making it suitable for smaller groups, airport limos, or corporate servicing. The ‘double-cut’ stretch limos are constructed by slicing the car’s body and extending it twice; once behind the front seats and again closer to the rear quarter panels. They are also much longer than a single-cut providing seating accommodating 15-20 passengers geared for weddings, proms, focusing upon entertainment. So you see…all stretch limousines aren’t created equally.
When coachbuilders set out to create limousines of unparalleled luxury and distinction, the Cadillac Brougham was their first choice. Any Cadillac with “Brougham” nomenclature attached equates to legendary comfort and convenience. Adding a bespoke coachbuilder’s touch makes it an automotive masterpiece. The sun never sets on a legend…in the continuing saga of “As the Standard of the World Turns.”
