Now for the power…torque…and refinement – The 4.4 litre Bi-Turbo engine cranks 600 hp @ 6,000 rpm packing a prolific punch with an astounding 799 Nm of peak torque @ 3,500 rpm. This is a 60 hp increase above the 2015 model. The dramatic performance is enhanced with an extensive rework of the air intake ducting, air filter housing, and upgrades to the fuel delivery system. The Alpina performance enhancement combined with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive delivers awesome jaw-dropping performance. Longitudinal acceleration is rated as 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. This is the fastest BMW Alpina model ever built with a maximum top speed of 200 mph electronically limited.

The 4.4 litre V8 engine is under continuous development. The Bi-Turbo system boosts the BMW Alpina B6’s staggering range of power. Two large-diameter turbochargers operating in parallel boost torque output at low rpm.  Its outstanding performance and power delivery are evolutionary. The high-performance water/air intercooler system with a short intake uses a large-volume low-temperature heat exchanger. It also has two near-engine intercoolers. For maximum engine cooling, this sophisticated system has additional oil and water coolers located behind the front spoiler. This guarantees optimum thermodynamic efficiency.

The Alpina Switch-Tronic 8-speed Sport automatic transmission is mated to the powerful 4.4 litre V8 Bi-Turbo engine. The transmission has three modes: Automatic (D), Sports (S), and Manual (M). In Automatic, it is programmed for comfort. Its superb 8-speeds and high torque result in imperceptible gear changes. Its effortless and efficient low engine speed offers superior cruising ability.

In Sport mode, upshifts come at higher speeds. This allows for multi-simultaneous downshifts in only milliseconds, with the transmission skipping several gears at a time, selecting the best gear for optimum acceleration and operating efficiency.

The Manual shift mode gives the driver complete control over the transmission. The Alpina Switch-Tronic buttons are located at the rear of the steering wheel allowing the driver to shift up or down as required. Manual shift mode in combination with the selection of Sport+ or DSC OFF mode using the Driving Dynamics Control button cancels the automatic upshift function. It maintains the selected gear up to a maximum engine speed and will not upshift to the next gear.

Hardware modifications to the transmission output and drive shafts enable unrestrained power delivery. Common reduction of torque required by the transmission in order to upshift is eliminated by Alpina-specific software and the single-cylinder fade out. This provides lightning-quick upshifts under full loads. Alpina software interacts with the astute BMW all-wheel drive system. It continually distributes torque between the front and rear axles within milliseconds.

The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and engine management system networks with the torque distribution control system. This intuitive network is performance oriented increasing driving agility and overall dynamics under lateral acceleration eliminating slip-induced losses. The system continually monitors a wide array of sensory inputs such as yaw angle and speed to distribute torque to achieve maximum safety with sudden road changes.

The Alpina B6 xDrive features a tuned stainless steel exhaust system. The deep throaty exhaust is the result of active exhaust valves open. The driver can change the sound via the Driving Dynamics Control button. In the comfort mode the exhaust valve is closed up to 2,500 rpm. In Sport mode the valve is permanently open. The exhaust system is equipped with exclusive Alpina trademark twin elliptical tailpipes. The character of the deep exhaust note is prominent but not intrusive.

Alpina-built models have refined understatement where form follows function. The shape of the new front spoiler guarantees the effective flow of air to the radiator modules of the cooling system, intercooler, water and oil systems. An integrated splitter directs air over and around the vehicle stabilizing the front end at high speeds. There are NACA air channels at the front of the underbody to direct cold air to the brakes. This sophisticated sport suspension uses BMW technology such as Dynamic Damper Control with adjustable adaptive shock absorbers, and Adaptive Drive which is an active Anti-Roll Stabilization. The 2016 BMW 7 Series can serve with equal distinction as an alternative to the traditional corporate limousine…it can also be driven as a high-performance touring saloon…or, it can assume varying roles that are demanded as a family sedan. BMW leads the world with large scale production of CFRP technology. The unique body structure or Carbon Core passenger cell is based upon technology used in the BMW “i” model development. The Dingolfing plant – where each generation of the illustrious 7 Series has been built – has been developed and adapted for the production of the all-new 7 Series and future models using the patented processes. Carbon fibre is used for the roof bows to reinforce the roof frame, the “B and C” pillars, the sills, center console tunnel and rear shelf.

It is the first use of two enhanced, innovative, and highly efficient processes “wet pressing” and “hybrid pressing.” Both processes enable highly economical large-scale production of up to several thousand carbon fibre components per day with compact systems engineering and short cycle times.

The wet pressing process uses carbon fibre fabric impregnated with resin pressed in a three-dimensional molding die while wet and then allowed to harden. The dry pre-shaping used previously in the Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) process is redundant and has been retired. Hybrid pressing involves carbon fibre fabrics impregnated with resin, also wet, is placed in a molding die with sheet steel, then pressed and hardened. This bonds the carbon fibre to steel to form the hybrid component. These 21st century hybrid components are lightweight but offer maximum rigidity and outstanding crash performance.

Portions of the bodyshell and chassis use an aluminium and steel combination; while the doors and boot lid are made from aluminium.

The unique modular construction reduces weight by up to 190 pounds while reducing unsprung weight by 15%. The 2016 7 Series is the very first mass production vehicle to use this new combo of futuristic materials and processes. The weight loss doesn’t compromise its rigidity and safety but exemplifies it even more so. It stands to reason, the lighter the vehicle…the quicker it can accelerate, respond to steering input, and come to a halt in a shorter distance – BMW uses innovation as leverage to escalate the world of motoring into a new realm of automotive design achievement.

The new BMW 7 Series has been redesigned to exceed one’s expectation in ways never imagined. The chassis includes an innovative array of technology. The front suspension has double wishbones, and the rear uses a five-link set-up. A unique four-wheel self-leveling system is powered by an electronic compressor with pressure reservoir so it keeps an attractive ride height even with the engine shut off. The level control may be manually adjusted allowing the vehicle’s ride height to be raised slightly to compensate for rough roads and uneven pavement. These electronic dampers greatly fine-tune ride and suspension performance to refine handling qualities.

The adaptive controls allow the driver to calibrate this highly sophisticated system using the standard Driving Dynamics Control switch located on the center console. Comfort, Sport, ECO PRO, and Adaptive modes are available to fine tune the 7 Series to personal requirements. This system coordinates transmission shifts, direct steering response, and damper tuning.

And who would have thought the new BMW 7 Series would have an economy mode. With the Driving Dynamics Control switch activated and set to ECO PRO. The system takes full advantage of the 7 Series lightweight hybrid construction and de-couples the powertrain allowing this luxury limo to coast while driving speeds are between 31 through 100 mph. It uses Brake Energy Regeneration and Auto Start/Stop functions for a new realm in 7 Series technology. This mode’s range of functions are individually programmable. The system is sophisticated enough to offer efficiency tips with the Route-ahead Assistant which advise efficient driving styles based upon navigation data-based shift strategy matching gear selection to the driving situation. 

The active chassis control while in Sport mode automatically lowers itself at highway speeds to boost aerodynamics. The Adaptive mode adjusts itself contingent upon driving style and changing route profile. The logic reacts to movement of the accelerator and steering wheel when gear selector is in either “D or S” positions. The power train and chassis system are configured for Sport or Comfort performance depending upon the driving situation.

BMW’s Dynamic Performance Control torque vectoring system, Dynamic Stability Control, and xDrive work together in a network. The Driving Dynamics Control enables the driver to enhance their vehicle’s character to accommodate their driving style. The Comfort setting includes Comfort+ mode stored. Drivers may further refine their vehicle for the Sport and ECO PRO modes thru the iDrive operating system. A new option debuting in the all-new 7 Series is the Active Comfort Drive with Road Preview. It enhances the Driving Dynamics Control working with both front and rear suspension. It’s an active chassis control system that electro-mechanically manages stability. The system works in unison with the electronic dampers for increased driving comfort. The system intuitively anticipates road conditions from data analysis using the navigation system to help respond to the road.

The Integral Active Steering option has been redesigned and can be offered with the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system. It adjusts the rear wheels in either same or opposing direction while steering. The variable steering rack ratio changes according to road requirements especially while changing lanes and cornering.

This luxury performance saloon flexes its muscles with highly refined manners. Two engine configurations are available for the model’s launch. A new 4.4 litre TwinPower Turbo powers Series 750Li, while a 3.0 litre Inline 6-cylinder also with TwinPower Turbo technology is the power source for Series 740i. With a powerful engine and sophisticated suspension system, the 2016 7 Series is bred for the ultimate in performance.

Notorious performance is a BMW attribute. Its engine is built to endure. The formidable 750Li xDrive features a refined 4.4 litre V8. This all-new design incorporates the intake manifold partially into the cylinder head which decrease air-flow resistance maximizing air-flow volume. The modular design of the engine’s components reduces the size to conserve space and weight boosting overall operating efficiency.

Underneath the sleek aerodynamic hood of the 750Li xDrive is an extremely powerful and efficient V8. It cranks out 445 hp @ 5,000-6,000 rpm with 657 Nm of peak torque @ 1,800-4,500 rpm. It has a top speed in the 130 mph range. The engine is mated to an 8-speed 8HP75 Sport Automatic Steptronic automatic transmission that boosts overall efficiency and is linked to the navigation system. Navigation data-based shift strategy matches gear selection to driving situations. The transmission may be manually shifted via steering wheel mounted paddle shifts. The system includes Launch Control to maximize power and optimize traction from standing starts.

The engine is equipped with TwinScroll turbochargers featuring flow-separated, bank-specific exhaust manifolds made from thin-wall castings. The compression ratio is now 10.5:1. The latest Valvetronic and Double-Vanos technology refines its breathing abilities. Separate flows through cylinder heads and cylinder liners now has a map-controlled coolant pump to optimize heat dissipation.

The new V8 engine is equipped with the latest version of the intelligent all-wheel drive system. The oil supply is optimized by a new more efficient transfer case. The electronically controlled power split between front and rear wheels enhances traction, stability, and overall handling dynamics. The system is 40:60 biased and is networked into the ABS and Dynamic Stability Control systems respectively. Its intuition regains traction and improves directional stability without human intervention.

When the best isn’t good enough…Mulliner Park Ward studios in London offered distinctive coachbuilding for Rolls Royce and Bentley chassis. An extra special body style for these fine automobiles is the two-door Fixedhead and Drophead coupe. A coupe version had to be specially hand-crafted in a highly bespoke manner. Rolls Royce and Bentley motorcars are usually built in four-door saloon body styles. Mulliner Park Ward created automotive masterpieces for Rolls Royce and Bentley models when the marque was built as body on frame design.

Bentley and Rolls Royce are chic…not to mention glamorous automobiles. A first time buyer gets a kick out of either – the new owner is excited… just because. After this, something more elaborate is sought. Before monocoque construction began for the two brands in the mid-1960s, coachbuilders could purchase a chassis and create a virtual rolling masterpiece for the client. The artisans with HJ Mulliner and Park Ward are the most revered coachbuilders and purveyors in the art of vehicle personalization. This elite sophistication is among the last of the genuine coachcrafters…they have vanished into a world where this trade no longer exists – 

Park Ward was established in 1919 in the UK and bodied a variety of automobiles in the 1920s. Rolls Royce purchased Park Ward in 1939. The coachbuilder was already in contract with W.O. Bentley in the 1920s supplying bodyshells. After Rolls Royce took over Bentley in 1931, they acquired patents and techniques for coachwork which were firsts to the industry. Park Ward developed a special design for all-steel saloons. The patented technique uses “Silentbloc” rubber bushings to reduce road noise, road shock, and vibration before it intrudes the passenger cell. These bodies were used for Bentley and Rolls Royce models.

HJ Mulliner, also an eminent British coachbuilder in the UK, was established in 1897 building carriages. As the ‘horse-less carriage’ emerged, they hand-crafted bodies for various high-end automobile makers. Mulliner custom bodied a Silver Ghost for the Honorable Charles Stewart Rolls. By the 1930s, Mulliner’s entire production output was fitted to Rolls Royce and Bentley chassis. Rolls Royce acquired HJ Mulliner in 1959.

The company was merged with Park Ward in 1961 to form the formidable Mulliner Park Ward (MPW) association. Mulliner is now the in-house personal commissioning department exclusively for Bentley Motors Limited. Mulliner no longer creates bespoke coach-crafting  working with Bentley, they are more of a “trim level” designer.

It is William MacDonald Park, Charles Ward, and Henry Jervis Mulliner that laid the foundation for one of the most prodigious custom coachbuilders in automotive history. Their names will live forever in association with the finest automobiles in the world – These are by no means “ditch and dash” motorcars –

Two of Mulliner Park Ward’s investment grade motorcars are based upon the hand-built aluminium-bodied Bentley Continental “S” chassis.  Here’s an interesting fact to consider, up to this period, Rolls Royce motorcars ‘inspired’ Bentley motorcar design…This is the beautiful exception to the rule.

The Rolls Royce variant of this aluminum-bodied design is built upon the Silver Cloud chassis but based upon the Bentley Continental version. Aluminium is a favorite medium among coachbuilders because it is lightweight and extremely versatile with contours as you may see. The lightweight aluminium bodyshells not only makes them faster than their steel-bodied counterparts, but also increases their aerodynamics.

Mulliner Park Ward designed and blue printed many different two-door Fixedhead and Drophead coupe body styles. Bentley badged versions include the aluminium-bodied Continentals and Bentley “T” models. The Rolls Royce variants are bodied as Silver Cloud MPW, Silver Shadow MPW, and…lest we forget, the iconic and unforgettable Corniche models.

Mulliner Park Ward is one of the first coachbuilders to modify the Silver Shadow four-door saloon into a two-door configuration. James young built a version of the Shadow as a coupe at a highly restricted pace not exceeding 26 vehicles. It appears a bit strange and austere when placed side by side with the Mulliner Park Ward version.

The MPW version sculpted the waist rail to include a graceful “cupid’s bow’ into the bodywork. The Silver Shadow MPW was renamed Corniche in 1971 and in 1985 Continental for Bentley models. The Corniche is one of the longest running and most prominent production series in the history of the brand. A Corniche remains among the most popular ultra-luxury motorcars on the planet –

HJ Mulliner created aluminium bodied four-door saloons as Continental Flying Spurs. Rolls Royce and Bentley chassis were used to build bespoke standards of excellence. The Continental Flying Spur saloons were hand-crafted from 1957 until 1966. Coachbuilt vehicles such as these serve as a measure by which all luxury automobiles are judged. These elegant saloons have a near limousine spaciousness and atmosphere. This unique four-door body style uses a different roof style augmented by thinner “C” pillars and a ‘6-window’ design.

The Flying Spur is further distinguished by a lower overall silhouette. It has a lower waist rail, more sculpted rear quarter panels, a higher rear deck lid, and modified tail lamps. The coachbuilder retained the identities of each brand. The epochal Spirit of Ecstasy and flamboyant Flying “B” atop the signature radiator grilles pronounce each distinctively. Understated, yet exquisite – the Mulliner Continental Flying Spurs are highly sought – they command six figures today and are still appreciating positively. Rolls Royce does not acknowledge its body style as “Continental” with brand nomenclature. It is simply known as the Silver Cloud Flying Spur.

The Maybach legend dates back to 1909 when it was founded by Wilhelm Maybach. The company built diesel and gas engines for zeppelins which are a type of rigid airship. The company built their first experimental car in 1919, and built the production version in 1921. They built a variety of luxury cars between 1921 and 1940 which are now highly sought classics. Daimler-Benz bought the company in 1960. After which, the Maybach Company was used to hand-build special luxury Mercedes-Benz editions in the W108 and W116 model range.

The Maybach name was revamped in 1997 with a luxury car concept shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. They showcased two models as the Maybach 57 and the long wheelbase variant Maybach 62 which are the model’s lengths in metric decimeters. These automobiles were advertised as chauffeur-driven and never owner-driven with exclusivity being the intent. The Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 were built from 2002 until production ceased in 2012. Only 3,000 were built during its tenure. Prices ranged from $344,000 USD for the Maybach 57 and $1 Million USD for the Landaulette.

Rolls Royce engineers and ergonomists worked closely with the medical profession to establish optimum seating positions that relax the body most while traveling. At the touch of a button, the rear seats recline the body 27″ helping the head to rest upon the head restraint cushion. The lower body is pampered by a new calf rest that raises 68″ for support. The carpeted footrest raises 30″ from the floor allowing the occupant to stretch out in total comfort. These all contribute to a totally relaxed posture while in motion. This is a requisite for the high-profile individual who spends a great deal of time traveling from one engagement to another. Concealed fragrance holders are available for three individual bottles. The hand-made perfume bottles from the famous Bresle Valley in North West France ensure the passenger has his/her fragrance as required. Another concealed panel holds watches and jewelry. A bottom left pocket houses a universal vanity pouch made of the finest materials to hold credit cards, business cards, make up, etc. Accessory Z-Boxes constructed of carbon fiber milled in aluminium and hand covered in the finest leather complete the door pannier. “Aesthetically exclusive…”

The Limelight Collection offers a choice of two distinctive interior trims as well as several new bespoke features to further enhance individuality. Complex embroidery in a diamond quilted stitching augments the upholstery seat flutes, door cards, rear console, and folding table backs.

The Light contrast scheme features Seashell and Navy Blue contrast leather with Seashell tone on tone stitching. The Dark contrast scheme offers Navy Blue and Seashell contrast leather with Navy Blue tone on tone stitching.

A Limelight Collection signature feature is a two-veneer wood treatment. These unique veneers demonstrate the prowess of the wood workers at Rolls Royce. Piano Seashell is used on the door garnish rails blending with the leather color schemes. Smoked Chestnut completes the color scheme; this is the first time this veneer has been used in a Rolls Royce Phantom.

A specifically crafted timepiece for the Limelight Collection is color coordinated to the rich Gala Blue exterior and the diamond quilted design from the interior.

This exquisite motorcar is finished in Gala Blue, another signature feature of the Limelight Collection. The Seashell and Navy Blue hand-painted diamond motive coachlines simulates a three-dimensional illusion of a diamond bracelet draped over the surface of the car. The finishing touch is the unique nine-spoke aluminium alloy wheels.

The chauffeur gets a secret thrill driving this luxury barouche. The Phantom saloon from the Limelight Collection is powered by the Rolls Royce 6.8 litre 48-valve DOHC V12 engine with variable valve control. The engine produces 453 hp @ 5,350 rpm with 719 Nm of peak torque @ 3,500 rpm. Longitudinal acceleration is rated as 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. It is mated to an 8-speed ZF electronic automatic transmission.

The Phantom is a large front engine rear drive saloon built using monocoque construction of integral steel with aluminium doors, bonnet, boot, and front wings. It is fitted with an independent 4-wheel suspension. The front suspension is equipped with double wishbones. The rear uses a multi-link set up.

Its technology includes 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. A sophisticated automatic leveling system keeps the Phantom at optimum height regardless of load or road conditions. Speed sensitive power steering aids the Phantom’s effortless overall operation.

A Rolls Royce is designed to defend itself. Its security system includes a panic alarm, immobilizer, and a Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament that retracts into the radiator grille when the system is activated or when it is tampered with.

The beautiful front end design incorporates anti-lift geometry forcing the car to hold the road like a magnetic. This is the new look of Lincoln luxury. The striking front end ensemble boasts a chrome mesh grille flanked by LED headlamps. Here is elegance and ingenuity American-style. The LED matrix headlamps include laser assisted high beams. After dark, the Lincoln Continental Concept presents a dramatic light show with an illuminated Continental star emblem in the center of the grille. This theme is repeated with five smaller illuminated Continental star motifs in the headlamps. The LED daytime running lamps are an illuminated line under the headlamps with horizontally illuminated light bars set into the ductwork on both sides of the lower bumper opposite the large air intake in the center.

The rear of the Lincoln Continental Concept is equally as impressive as the front. Its classic simplicity is augmented by a patented one-piece “Light Through Chrome” taillamp design. A beveled rear deck highlights the high-tech look. Quad stainless-steel exhaust ports are arranged neatly in the diffuser for the dual exhaust system.

The Lincoln Continental Concept is a showcase of technology. The panoramic roof uses SPD-SmartGlass technology from Research Frontiers. It controls heat from direct sunlight at the touch of a button. This electronically controlled tint can cool the vehicle interior by 18 degrees Fahrenheit as it blocks 99 percent of the sun’s UV rays. The tint is infinitely adjustable with a wide dynamic light range as opposed to basic on/off modes.

The dynamically variable, instantly reactive glazing technology changes from clear to a dark blue tint allowing the user to adjust the amount of light and sun glare. The Lincoln Continental Concept is among the first automobiles to benefit from this variable tint technology. SPD-SmartGlass technology has not only been laboratory tested, but also put through rigorous durability and performance testing in some of the most extreme conditions on earth including the arctic cold of Scandinavia and the blistering heat of Death Valley, California.

The Lincoln Continental Concept offers world-class luxury. Inside, are four of the most desirable seats in the industry. Mood enhancing ambient lighting adds serenity. Newly designed 30-way seats adjust themselves to passenger’s size and weight for added comfort. The passenger side rear seat fully reclines and moves the front passenger seat forward.

The seats are upholstered in an all-new Venetian leather with Alcantara inserts. Luxurious shearling wool carpet and a satin headliner add character to this new Flagship. Technology beneath the beautiful bodyshell abounds in this exciting new luxury sedan. The Lincoln Continental Concept is powered by a Lincoln-exclusive 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine. An exclusive 9-speed electronic transmission and all-wheel drive are possible drivetrain amenities.

Driver assist technologies include an intuitive Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. Enhanced Park Assist with a 360 degree camera displays on the “MyLincoln” touch screen. The iconic Continental nameplate dates back to the very first model which was designed for Edsel Ford. It began in 1938 as a V12 Lincoln Zephyr with modifications. The car was designed for Edsel Ford’s spring vacation in 1939. The extensively hand-built one of a kind automobile created such a raucous in the motoring world that it was put into production with 24 built for the 1939 model year and 400 built for the 1940 model year. Interest in the Continental continued and production numbers grew. The first generation Continental built from 1939 through 1948 is recognized as a “Full Classic” by the Classic Car Club of America.

The Continental nameplate was revamped in 1956 as a separate brand from the Lincoln family of fine cars. The Continental Division of the Ford Motor Company built the Continental MK II from 1956 until 1957. These magnificent motorcars were also extensively hand-built. This version is unique and produced with the highest quality control ever seen in the automotive industry. A total of 2,996 Continental MK II’s were built and carried a hefty price tag of $10,000 which could have bought a very nice home at the time.

The Continental MK II is even more exclusive than the original Continental. These fine automobiles were among the most expensive motorcars in the world at the time. The Continental MK II rivaled the Rolls Royce in exclusivity. These fine classic cars have not only retained their original value, but are appreciating favorably. The Continental influenced many decades of luxury automobiles that include two-door, four-door, convertibles, and limousines.
