Lykan HyperSport – A New Breed…Ferocious and Wild

It’s unarguably the most exotic of the exotic road-going automobiles available today. This extreme and totally avant-garde design echoes a new realm of automotive style. For only $3.4 million US dollars one of seven could be sitting in your garage as the ultimate collectible. It’s also outrageously bespoke. The object of my rant is the formidable Lykan HyperSport.

This completely unorthodox supercruiser joins the ranks among the most highly desirable automobiles in the world. Just as the very first 1953 Corvette C1 cast its indelible tire tracks into the world’s asphalt…leading the way as the birth of an entirely new automotive niche – the Lykan HyperSport auspiciously captures its own unique signature as a contemporary interpretation of automotive art. This is the supercar designed to indulge the connoisseur as it displays one’s penchant for uniqueness –

It was launched at the International Qatar Motor Show in July, 2013. The Lykan HyperSport made its first European debut at the exclusive Top Marques Motor Show in Monaco April 2014. This is the first car of its type designed and built in the Middle East by W Motors. Production ran from 2013 through 2016 and was built at a highly restricted pace of only seven vehicles. One was purchased by The Abu Dhabi Police to join their fleet of world-class supercars. A Lykan HyperSport is featured in the 2015 film “The Furious 7.”  It has also influenced video games such as Forza Motorsport 6, Forza Horizon 3, and Forza Motorsport 7.

To say the Lykan HyperSport is fast…is an understatement. Just look at it – it appears to be in motion even while parked. Underneath the angular, razor-sharp lines of its wind-cheating architecture resides an extremely potent Boxer type 3.7 litre DOHC twin turbocharged flat six.

The mid rear transverse mounted engine sports dry-sump lubrication, four valves per cylinder, and is capable of cranking 780 hp @ 7,100 rpm with a respectable 960 Nm of peak torque @ 4,100 rpm. Longitudinal acceleration is rated as 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds with a top speed in the 245-mph range. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission or a 6-speed sequential manual gearbox.

The handcrafted carbon composite architecture has a lithe, muscular silhouette. It rides like the wind and is designed to work with it. The geometric shapes manage the air flow all around the vehicle optimizing aerodynamics. A network of vent work cleverly maintains the all-important downforce and overall stability crucial to a supercar’s health and well-being. A McPherson-strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension with coil over shock absorbers are teamed with front and rear anti-roll bars. Its beauty is more than skin deep. Anti-lift and anti-squat geometry maintains Lykan HyperSport’s poise at all speeds.

The cabin exhibits the same 21st century appeal as its exquisite exterior. It was highly bespoke when produced based upon its owner’s requisites. The seats are designed by W Motors exclusively for Lykan HyperSport. A carbon fibre console accents supple leather and Alcantara trim tastefully.

There’s nothing distracting inside keeping the driver focused upon the journey ahead. Standard amenities include automatic temperature control, satellite navigation system, a 9” Holographic Mid-Air Display with interactive motion, an 11” infotainment system with touchscreen operation, and remote central locking with boot release.

Lykan HyperSport’s electronic architecture includes a customizable digital dash enabling the driver to make it their own further enhancing the experience. Its integrated hard drive, 3G internet router, trip computer, and Bluetooth capability enhance interconnectivity. For entertainment, there’s a premium sound system and an MP3 player. The alarm system has both volumetric and tilt sensor with immobilizer to protect this investment.

Lykan HyperSport is brought efficiently to a halt with a Bosch 8.0 ABS anti-lock braking system. Large 6-piston aluminium mono-bloc calipers are teamed with ventilated cross-drilled ceramic composite discs for rapid heat dissipation.

This beauty is only 175” in length riding a 103.3” wheelbase with a 45” ride height. Lightweight forged aluminium wheels augment its staggered tire size with 8.5″ by 19” to the front axle and 12.5″ by 20” to the rear axle. The front tires are sized 255/35 ZR 19 and 335/30 ZR 20 on the rear axle. All network together with traction control to maximize stability.

The HyperSport class of automobiles doesn’t play by the rules…they create them being technologically superior consistently introducing cutting-edge drama. The next generation of the supercar is shaped by the wind to manage the wind. Battling the forces of nature and reducing aerodynamic drag are a constant virtue for automotive engineers.

Their efforts include weight reduction as well as an overall design network achieving optimum rolling resistance resulting in an ultimate power-to-weight ratio. Add a significant increase to horsepower taking full advantage of this aerodynamic envelope of technology resulting in a new standard for the world in high-performance…which is clearly the mission of the Lykan HyperSport –
