This salute is dedicated to the future Cadillac Flagships.
This letter is written to address a very important issue regarding an area in which you are highly remiss. You have forgotten a very important market segment…that very same segment of loyal patronage that made you “The Standard of the World.” When one has owned numerous Cadillacs including Fleetwood Broughams, Sedans deVille, and Eldorados…cars like the ATS, CTS and XTS just will not do!
You have given them the CTS and CTS-V, now there is an XTS-V…but nothing for the traditional Cadillac buyer. AGE has nothing to do with it, I am not that old and I want a luxury car, I do not wish to go from 0-60 in less than a nanosecond. Sorry motorsport racing won’t do at the Yacht Club either.
You claim you are targeting the younger buyer… what about the “younger traditional” Cadillac buyer? Maybe some of us younger Cadillac buyers “want a little of what our fathers drove.” Why not build a real luxury car then? One that exhibits that formidable poised dignity which was the hallmark of every Cadillac… One that would once again be the envy in the driveway?
You are so busy “chasing” targets that you have forgotten one thing: Cadillac, if expedited in the correct manner, would sell without advertising as it once did. Stop chasing Mercedes-Benz and BMW…make them chase YOU for a change like back in the days when neither of each had a luxury saloon!
You are so hyped into the chase that they have beaten you at your own game using your own former techniques! You see …they know… that we know… that they know, should you get a running start you will be catapulted back to “The Standard of the World” in a heartbeat and then they will have a seat on Cadillac’s coattails…once again!
Are you just gonna stand there and let the others “throw you shade?” You had better put those boxing gloves on and fight-back tooth and nail with a drop-dead gorgeous Flagship that will have the entire industry runnin’ scared! And as for the re-imaging, the staff needs a fresh new approach.
Why rekindle past efforts when those efforts didn’t work back then… what makes you think calling the same people back will make any difference today? It would be like resurrecting the “Titanic” and selling tickets for the cruise…
As stated previously, Cadillac should be “snooty” enough to avoid certain market segments. Cadillac has become type-cast with kitsch and must overcome this first by regaining their exclusivity. Daniel Boone didn’t wait for things to happen…he made them happen and others followed.
Sadly, all of the fancy advertising and “words” you use are null and void if there isn’t a product to substantiate the boasting…so, are you gonna go into the next generation of the luxury sedan…or go belly up as Olds and Pontiac did because they didn’t listen to their following either…?
So stop chasing inanimate objects, turn the light on in the industry once again for those who have forgotten your formidable reputation, and kick up a little dust ahead of them at the finish line as you did previously. I have faith in the brand, you did it once…you can do it again! Remember you wear the “de la Mothe Cadillac” family coat of arms.
Remember the prowess in the luxury car segment that you once had…remember the ‘sour-grapes’ from the other luxury brands each time you introduced something that took them years to emulate… but they could never replicate? You were the formidable “Standard of the World” but you would never recognize that fact today, by building automobiles that are recalled annually yet sold for such exorbitant prices… building automobiles that no longer reflect the once hand-crafted precision…
This is a new century, time for a fresh new approach to the luxury automobile. You cannot be all things to all motoring classes…there are no “Blue-light specials” at Rolls Royce, in fact, you could take note from their exclusivity and supremacy. You don’t see Rolls Royce building an automobile to compete with a Ford Focus do you?
Since nobody else had the audacity to bring this to your attention, I chose me. We have been the silent majority in which up to now we wish to break this silence. Please cease and desist with the notion that we no longer exist. We have waited patiently with bated breath for the formidable “Standard of the World” the “Cadillac of Cadillacs”… We will settle for nothing less… You were once the “leader” in the luxury car arena, you can be once again-
This letter is not to chide you as though you were a recalcitrant child, it is written as a wake-up call and a plea for HELP! Once one has become addicted to “traditional” Cadillac luxury…there is no other fix! So where is our Flagship? When will it go on sale?
The luxury car buyers that you forgot…
Cadillac once built the largest V8 engine in the entire industry to power a production passenger vehicle…the formidable 500 CID 8.2 litre V8 which had the other luxury brands scrambling to rebound…and never achieved anything close!
