James Bond and Aston Martin
The iconic relationship of James Bond and Aston Martin
In 1964 a new car was introduced for James Bond. The 1963 Aston martin DB5 had just been released, the movie version went with the new model while the book version by Ian Fleming used the Aston Martin DB Mark III. The color of the James Bond DB5 is Silver Birch. This color and model launched higher sales and increased the profile of Aston Martin. Sean Connery was the first James Bond and in my opinion, should have been the only one. The names should have changed with each subsequent actor. Sean Connery created this image….
Thunderball introduced a rear facing water cannon and a boot stowed jet pack. Sean Connery drove the same Aston Martin DB5 as in GOLDFINGER.
For the 1969 version, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” George Lazenby’s first and only role as James Bond drove the Aston Martin DBS. This was the only film where James Bond got married. Tracy, Diana Rigg, was the only Bond girl to snag James Bond. Tragically, Blofield, played by Telly Savalas, managed to return from the dead and killed Tracy in a drive-by shooting following the wedding.
“The Living Daylights” featured Timothy Dalton as James Bond. He drove the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The film used both Volante and coupe versions fitted with James Bond gadgetry.
“GOLDENEYE” featured Pierce Brosnan as James Bond driving the iconic Aston Martin DB5. Do you remember the car chase between the DB5 and the Ferrari F355?
Pierce Brosnan was featured as James Bond in “Die Another Day.” He was the first James Bond to drive two different Aston Martins. He drove the V12 Vanquish in this version.
This is the high-speed accident showing the DBS flipping and rolling seven times. The film used a modified DB9 due to the film taking place before the DBS was introduced. Daniel Craig was featured as James Bond.
The 2006 film “Casino Royale” featured James Bond driving two different Aston Martins in the same movie. He drove a DBS that was just being introduced to the world and he acquired a DB5 in a poker game from a gambling villain in the Bahamas.
“Quantum of Solace” was Daniel Craig’s second appearance as James Bond where he drove the Aston martin DBS in a high speed chase.
Daniel Craig returned as James Bond in “Skyfall” driving the iconic Aston Martin DB5. This was the sixth appearance for the DB5. The original GOLDFINGER DB5 was sold to a collector for $4.5 Million dollars in 2010.
