Lamborghini Urus SUV Concept
The Lamborghini of SUV’s……………….
Automobili Lamborghini presented an SUV concept with extreme performance at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show. The ultimate SUV called the Lamborghini Urus combines a unique design, fascinating interior and outstanding performance with versatility for everyday use.
The Urus concept SUV has four large seats, a versatile luggage compartment, permanent all-wheel drive and a power plant delivering a 600 hp punch! This is a luxurious and powerful SUV that meets everyday requirements yet offers a spirited driving experience Lambo-style. Sant’ Agata Bolognese is targeting the USA, UK, Germany, Russia, the Middle East, and China markets. This vehicle expands the brand’s customer base enormously by appealing to families and the Lamborghini drivers who have driven other SUV brands. Lamborghini anticipates annual production to be around 3,000 vehicles. It will be “The Lamborghini of SUVs.” Every Lamborghini is pure and minimal exhibiting a clear focus on what matters. Lamborghini design is always unique and avant-garde….a technical sculpture in rapid motion.
Lamborghini is no stranger to SUV production. The Lamborghini LM002 was manufactured from its introduction in 1986 until 1992. Barely 300 were ever made securing a place in Lambo history and automotive history as well. If its new and extreme and no one else has ever done it before…..It’s Lamborghini!
The athletic Urus SUV sits lower than conventional SUVs. The horsepower is expected to be around 600 with permanent all-wheel drive. The consistent application of carbon-fibre technology yields a systematic approach to lightweight design. This includes an intelligent material mix for the structure, bodyshell and interior. Light-weight is a requisite not only for decreased fuel consumption but also refines dynamics and overall handling. Aerodynamic efficiency is augmented by its wind-cheating lower center of gravity, a highly variable bodyshell height, and the height adjustable front spoiler.
The cabin of the Urus uses the carbon-fibre reinforced polymer technology. The center tunnel is made from Forged-Composite, a carbon-fibre material. It carries through the cabin and is partially clad in leather upholstered cushioning. Single leather cushions clad the four bucket seats, with frames made from Forged Composite material. Minimal is the Lamborghini status-quo, when it comes to the interior……their philosophy is that the driver should not be distracted when driving at the rate of speed a Lamborghini is bred to perform.
Shift paddles are located behind the steering wheel. Controls for the lights, windshield wipers, and indicator lights are mounted either to the steering wheel of the center console. Driver information is displayed on a freely programmable TFT screen behind the steering wheel. A touch screen mounted to the center tunnel displays navigation, entertainment and climate control. An optional touch screen system is available for rear seat passengers.
Lamborghini styling cues display the family resemblance. Strong geometric shapes dominate the styling. The signature “Y” shape is evident in the LED technology lighting in the front. The highly dynamic roofline and the extremely muscular rear wheel arches create a taut and aggressively sporty look. The clean, uncluttered finely executed surfaces showcase Lamborghini’s knowledge and experience, yielding a tremendously precise design language with strong technical appeal. The razor-sharp lines define a precision that is at the forefront of automotive design……so typical of the superlatives rolling out of production at Sant’ Agata Bolognese.
The Urus has a unique appearance which is unmistakably Lamborghini. The technology involved in its production is world-class much of which was invented at Sant’ Agata Bolognese. Their remarkable ability to produce stunning automotive masterpieces continues with the Lamborghini Urus Concept. Power, performance, and presence are the Lamborghini hallmarks, all of which are embodies in this fresh new approach to the SUV. Leave it to Automobili Lamborghini to explore uncharted territory…..going to where no automaker has ever gone before……YOU GO…..LAMBO!!!
