Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera
……….the bull is on a relentless rampage
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera (Superlight) is the top model in the Gallardo series. This is Lamborghini’s best selling model series. It is a trimmer version of the Gallardo LP 560-4 and is the lightest roadcar by Lamborghini. Carbon-fibre is used throughout its construction both inside and out. This material is the major weight reduction remedy. This is an aerodynamic envelope of Lamborghini high-tech innovation. The Superleggera is the sophisticated supercar series. Prices start at $237,600 plus tax and destination charges.
The standard air conditioning and power windows make the Superleggera the civilized bull. The interior uses carbon-fibre for weight reduction and with its versatility; this space aged material is used in many applications. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera’s interior is clad in lightweight super-luxurious Alcantara. The leather steering wheel, storage package, and alarm system further define its “rudely elegant” demeanor. An LED light package illuminates the interior, entry area and engine bay. A Multi-media navigation system, an ingenious lifting system which raises the front end to adjust clearance over obstacles, and a rear view camera are more of the luxury comfort features that make the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera a civilized roadcar.
The Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera dashes from 0-62 in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph. The power comes from an alloy 5.2 litre V10 engine producing 570 hp @ 8,000 rpm. The engine is equipped with “Iniezione Diretta Stratificata” (gasoline direct injection). This power plant boasts a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions are reduced by 20.5% compared to the previous model. The engine’s aluminum crankcase includes dry sump lubrication and a cylinder angle of 90 degrees. The engine has a special long stroke. The crankshaft is dual plane with the con rods of opposing pistons sharing one bearing. This configuration gives alternating ignition intervals at 54 and 90 degrees. This firing sequence gives the Superleggera a race-car sound. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera has an excellent power-to-weight ratio due to its lightweight construction. Its breathtaking performance and structural rigidity is due to the carbon-fibre technology that made Automobili Lamborghini world leaders in this innovation.
The Superleggera uses Lamborghini’s e-gear transmission operated via paddles behind the steering wheel. It shifts imperceptibly through its six gears smoother and faster than a pro-race driver. The e-gear control unit has three operating modes, two of which are available in automatic. The “thrust” mode is programmed to manage starting revs of around 5,000 rpm with minimal wheel slip. The Superleggera is driven with permanent all-wheel drive and with its weight distribution of 43/57% front/rear; traction and stability at high speeds are optimized. Its handling is always precise, stable, and predictable.
The running gear layout is derived directly from Lamborghini’s motorsport experience. Double aluminum wishbones, precise rack and pinion steering, and extremely firm shock absorbers enable the running gear to reach full dynamic potential. Anti-roll bars and suspension mounts are further reinforced. The result is an automobile as close to a racecar as this one. The development of the Superleggera was heavily influenced by experience gained from the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. Even the wheels add to the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency. The 19” aluminum forged units with wheel bolts made from titanium are incredibly light and very strong. The wheels are mounted to Pirelli P Zero Corsa 235/35 ZR19 in the front and 295/30 ZR19 fitted to the rear axle.
Its bodyshell is aluminum mounted to an impact-resistant spaceframe. The new design of the front end has deeply recessed air intakes that improve cooling to the engine. It also improves downforce to the front axle. Aerodynamic force is optimized with the use of a fully covered underbody, new sill elements, and the rear diffuser with four large tailpipes.
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera is a highly concentrated driving machine. The powerful V10 engine, lightweight construction, and permanent all-wheel drive provide driving dynamics like no other car. Its sophisticated performance rival that of cars directly from the racetrack circuit. The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera is a racing car tuned for street use. Sant’ Agata Bolognese is all about power, performance, and presence. Happy 50th Anniversary Lamborghini….there’s nothing in the world that could compare to a Lamborghini…except another Lamborghini!
