Bentley Brooklands
The Bentley Brooklands is the world’s most exclusive coupe. Production was limited to only 550 cars during its run from 2008 until 2011. Its name is reminiscent of the famous Brooklands racetrack of the 1920s when the “Bentley Boys” had their heyday. The Bentley Brooklands seats four in the grand touring fashion. It is powered by one of the most powerful V8s Bentley has ever made.
Insert the jack-knife styled key into the ignition and hit the start button and this behemoth coupe comes to life. A 6.75 litre twin turbocharged alloy V8 delivers 530 bhp @ 4,000 rpm with a top speed of 183.9 mph.
Dirk van Braeckel and his design team described their mission: “to create the perfect Bentley coupe, sumptuous hand-crafted luxury with a distinctly sporting character.” This rakish tourer is evidence that their mission was accomplished. The Bentley Brooklands coupe was designed to deliver supercar levels of in-gear acceleration combined with Arnage refinement.
The prodigious wave of torque at any rev is one of the hallmarks of a true Bentley. The masterful V8 is mated to a six speed transmission which includes a semi automatic function allowing manual gear selection for greater driver control. (no paddle shifting here!)
The Bentley Brooklands rides upon an independent front and rear double wishbone suspension with computer assisted electro-hydraulic dampers for stability. The carbon/silicon carbide cross-drilled brake discs are fitted with 16.5” in the front and 14” to the rear. These are the largest brakes fitted to any vehicle in the world. They are lightweight, completely fade resistant and the rotors will last the lifetime of the car. This rear-drive performance coupe handles with the grace of a coupe half its size. One would not believe this car weighs 5800 lbs with 17’9” of length.
The Brooklands flowing body lines come from coach building skills and craftsmanship from the artisans at Crewe. The Brooklands is a large coupe based on the Bentley Arnage with traces of the Bentley Azure. The Brooklands sports a lower profile than the Arnage saloon with a lower roofline and steeply raked rear sail panels. The pillar less side glass lends a sophisticated airiness making the car appear even larger and more luxurious. The Brooklands waist rail is positioned lower than the Arnage, adding a graceful curve connecting the front and rear wheels. The LeMans wing vents behind the front wheels prove its authority. The base price for the Bentley Brooklands started at $340,990.
Inside, there is more leather and wood than the mind can conceive……..the interior seats four and only four. The deeply upholstered seats rival fine furniture. Exquisite fit and finish are definitely not after thoughts. This is one of the most luxurious interiors in the world today.
With the Brooklands wider cabin, leg, knee and headroom exceed any luxury coupe on sale. Limousine style comfort swiftly shuttle 4 adults in an ambience of sheer elegance. The rear seat occupants enjoy the legroom of a saloon. The rear seats are electrically adjustable. The pillar less glass design enhances the feeling of space.
A new single piece headliner flows uninterrupted from front to rear which mirror the long sleek profile of the elegant interior. As with every Bentley, the client may select from a palette of hides, veneers, and carpet proving again, bespoke personalization has no boundaries.
The Bentley Brooklands coupe was designed for 550 discerning owners who know the breed best. One really must drive this vehicle to appreciate the awesome jaw-dropping power in such a velvety smooth environment. It is no mystery; “Big Ben” will always be in a league by itself, a niche it created that no other automobile manufacturer can come close….with the exception of Rolls Royce of course!
