………..”they’re back…….”

The Lamborghini Murcielago is one of the most NOTORIOUS supersports cars of all time. The flagship Murcielago LP 670-4 Superveloce was the King of the bulls at the Lamborghini stables cranking out 670 horses and sprinting from 0-62 in 3.2 seconds. The Murcielago Superveloce has a top speed of 212 mph. This super sports car was built at a restricted pace of only 350 vehicles.

This is the ultimate performance car for the advanced sports car driver. Its significantly modified aerodynamics increases the vehicle’s downforce bringing considerable improvement to stability at high speeds. The owner had a choice of either a small or large rear spoiler. The Superveloce was extensively reworked and redeveloped in virtually every aspect. Lamborghini success is due in no small part to constant evolutionary change. Automobili Lamborghini is a world leader in supercar technology…..why they should be, remember, it was Lamborghini that CREATED the super sports car niche….The Murcielago’s extremely formidable….but the Superveloce is vicious!

The impressive rear end of the Superveloce is augmented by the “V12 under glass.” The architecture includes a glass bonnet with hexagonal polymer plates made from transparent polycarbonate set on three levels within a carbon-fibre framework. These layers are open towards the rear playing a key role in the thermodynamics of the high performance engine.

The Murcielago LP 670-4 Superveloce sports a bodyshell of lightweight construction. The floorpan is made from a composite construction of extremely stiff carbon components and a tubular race-car inspired frame. The transmission tunnel and floor are made from carbon-fibre attached to the steel frame using rivets and high-strength adhesives. The roof and exterior door panels are sheet metal with the remainder of the bodyshell made from carbon composite material. Lamborghini is the purveyor of this space-aged technology, they invented the processes…….Lamborghini has made the automakers “nervous” since 1963 by their shocking designs and the level of technology the other automakers wish they could obtain…..You GO…..Lambo!

A 6.5 litre 48-valve alloy V12 moves the Superveloce with aplomb. The 670 hp V12 sends 660 Nm of torque to the crankshaft at a mere 6,500 rpm with maximum power reached @ 8,000 rpm. The average piston speed of 23.7 meters per second is comparable to racing engines….well go figure. Four variable controlled chain-driven camshafts and a three stage intake manifold adds greater thrust…..bull-like thrust. The air intake system and the valve train were refined and optimized. Dry sump lubrication allows the engine to be mounted deeper into the engine bay benefiting handling. Lamborghini ‘tuned’ the exhaust into a concerto performance ranging from a deep growl to a mighty trumpeting. The new lightweight clutch shifts the six-speed transmission imperceptibly.

Open the scissor doors and enter the interior clad with luxurious Alcantara and carbon-fibre. The door panels are clad in carbon-fibre as well as key areas of the floorpan. A navigation system is omitted but can be fitted upon request. It is also absent of an audio system. These omissions are part of the weight reduction program, Lamborghini is minimal when it comes to shedding weight, besides, one need not be distracted by surfing the ‘net’ at 212 mph……..right?

The Murcielago LP 670-4 Superveloce travels on a double wishbone suspension. It uses spring-struts two on each rear wheel and one each for the front. The all-wheel drive delivers extreme power and exceptional road ability with superior dynamics. A standard front end lift system raises the nose 45 mm to clear obstacles. Staggered Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires size 245/30 ZR 18 for the front axle with 335/30 ZR 18 in the rear add to the cars road-gripping traction and stability, especially needed at higher speeds.

The independent four-wheel carbon ceramic brakes are controlled by a sophisticated ABS. Enlarged channels in the bodywork provide a stream of cooling air to the brakes. The ceramic discs are lightweight, fade resistant and capable of extremely high operational performance.

The master artisans at Sant’ Agata Bolognese produced another timeless masterpiece. Power, performance, and presence are yours with any Lamborghini. It’s the models made in small numbers that is so intriguingly charismatic to a collector. The Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 Superveloce is another dream come true made possible by Automobili Lamborghini…..Happy 50th Anniversary Automobili Lamborghini!
