The 2008 Bentley Azure T

The 2008 Bentley Azure T is one of the world’s most elegant cabriolets. Its styling cues are derived from the Bentley Arnage T series. Open air touring was never more luxurious. The Azure T is built as a convertible. There’s more to a convertible than merely snipping off the roof of a hardtop. It has a lower center of gravity. Rigid steel parts made into the sill section of the body extend into the “A” pillars that form the windscreen. Beneath the car are carbon fibre cross members that brace the entire bodyshell to increase structural integrity. Using carbon fibre for reinforcement adds less weight than steel. An advanced roll-over protection system is fitted behind the rear seats. Should the system detect a roll-over, two hoops pop up thru the rear head restraints. Combined with the strengthened front windscreen frame, these are capable of supporting 2.5 times the entire weight of the over-turned car. Safety is paramount at Bentley.

The Azure T has a muscular physique inspired by the 1955 Bentley Park Ward Drophead coupe and the 1995 Azure. Its roofline gives the car a sporting profile when raised with its seven bow canvas roof. With the roof raised, the cabin is hermetically sealed from the elements. When seated inside with the top up, it mocks a hardtop as no convertible hardware is visible. The convertible top is three layered, when lowered, it is stored in its own locker beneath the rear parcel shelf and takes only 2.5 seconds to close. The convertible locker doesn’t intrude into the boot integrity. It can still carry two sets of golf clubs and luggage easily.

Interiors of the Azure T are just as beautiful as its exterior. Many of the most desirable Mulliner options are standard. Diamond quilting to seats and door panels add a special appeal. Thunderous performance comes from an aluminium 6.75 litre twin-turbocharged V8 which produces 500 bhp and 1,000 Nm of torque. It springs from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, which is awesome for an automobile of this sheer size. It utilizes a sophisticated electronic management system that provides smooth and fast gear shifts. The Azure T has a separate sports suspension and gearbox that allows the driver to select their preference via the “Sport Mode” switch on the dash and by positioning the gear shift lever for the transmission’s “Sport Mode.”

The Azure T rides on a four-wheel independent double wishbone front and rear suspension. Coil springs with computer controlled adaptive electro-hydraulic dampers fitted to each wheel fine tunes the suspension anonymously. Automatic ride-height control with auto-load compensation further refines the ride maintaining optimum vehicle poise at all times under any road condition.

 Available carbon/silicon carbide, cross drilled ventilated discs upgrade the already efficient braking system for supercar performance. It uses 420×40 mm (front) and 356×28 mm (rear) discs, which were the largest, fitted to any passenger production car at the time. With eight piston calipers, the brakes provide excellent deceleration while reducing the vehicle’s unsprung weight benefiting steering, ride quality, and acceleration.

Standard equipment includes 20” five-spoke bright finish alloy wheels, a retractable flying “B” bonnet mascot, dark tint matrix upper and lower grilles, LeMans lower front wing air vents, Bentley ‘jeweled’ fuel filler carp, twin stainless steel exhaust system with chrome exhaust tips, and a choice of 42 exterior colors.
