The 1992-1994 Jaguar XJ40 Vanden Plas Majestic was the LWB saloon of which only 121 vehicles were built. These cars began as SWB units, removed from the assembly line and stretched by Project Aerospace in Coventry. They were returned to Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations for hand finishing. The Vanden Plas was built for the US market but badged as Daimler for the European markets.
The Daimler/Vanden Plas models may be identified by the single rectangular headlamps, fluted radiator grill surround and boot lid plinth. The Daimler/Vanden Plas models were the highest level of luxury and elegance. They both were the ultimate grand tourers that epitomized the Jaguar brand. The Vanden Plas Majestic is a very rare and beautiful car.
The 1992-1994 Vanden Plas Majestic was powered by the alloy AJ6 4.0 litre 24-valve DOHC inline six-cylinder engine. It used Lucas electronic indirect injection. The engine produced 223 hp @ 4,700 rpm with 377 Nm of peak torque @ 3,650 rpm. This large saloon went from 0-60 in 8.4 seconds and could do the ¼ mile in 16.4 seconds. Its top was 140 mph. A ZF 4HP24E 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive was standard. It used a double wishbone suspension with a self leveling system.
Standard features included: power sunroof, automatic temperature control, power door locks and windows, remote keyless entry with central locking and boot release, tilt steering wheel, front heated 8-way electrically adjustable seats, passenger reclining seat with lumbar adjustment, leather upholstery and steering wheel, tinted windows, ABS, cruise control, four-wheel disc brakes, fog lights, full size spare tire, limited slip differential, and security system.
The Jaguar XJ40 Vanden Plas Majestic was an extremely rare and beautiful luxury saloon. Jaguars have always been known for their elegance and style. The marketing slogan was “A Jaguar so elegant and exclusive….it could only be called Majestic.

I have a 1992 VDP Majestic with 52,000 miles on it. The car has won it’s class in ever concourse it has been in. I am in the middle of two other Jaguar projects and need to sell a couple vehicles and the Majestic is one of those. It has one or two minor flaws but has scored 9.96 and above in the driven division.

Hello Edwin! These cars are becoming increasingly rare these days so it is contingent upon a seller parting with a pristine example which is very very seldom. Usually the ones that hit the auction block have a few hidden surprises. These cars can be prolific nightmares so be very careful and look before you leap. ALWAYS take the car to a professional BEFORE you purchase it!!!!

How do I buy one? Tried for awhile
Hi Jaguars lovers. I own one and is on sale for reconditioning or to use for parts, Jag. has a “junk” title (on April 2023 somebody crashed on the front right side of my jaguar and it cost to much to fixed is a 1992 xj saloon Vanden Plas Majestic (xj40) Is a Black Cherry outside and very light tan color on leather interior including steering wheel, rear sun shade, sheep floor mats, air conditioning and heater in good working condition, front both side has heater seat and believe has 8way power seat control switch plus both front seat recliner, power windows, power sunroof, picnic table on the back from the front seat (all in good working condition) still has the original spare tire, i recently changed /replaced the original spark plugs (some is in the glove box for examples), all 4 wheel /rims are in very good shape (light brass color) tire are replaced couple years ago for the first time has only 70165 miles, power train are in good conditions. It was a beautiful car to drive it was an eye catch wherever you been driving… Picture and video with engine running is on your request.. asking price is $1600 or a reasonable best offer. thanks and hope anyone who is buying can give this beauty a second chance.
